Tire Trivia — Exploring the Secrets Behind Different Tread Patterns of Light Truck Tires
Category: Company News
Release Time: 2025-05-13
Summary: The tread pattern of dedicated steering wheels generally consists of four longitudinal grooves. The straight lines reduce rolling resistance, enhance steering and lateral slip resistance, and the tire shoulder is specially treated to address friction on the outer side of the tire during steering.
Light Truck Tire Selection:
1. Steering Tires:
Specialized tread patterns for steering wheels generally feature four longitudinal grooves. The straight lines reduce rolling resistance, enhance steering and lateral slip resistance, and the tire shoulder is specially treated to handle friction on the outer side during steering.

2. Drive Tires:
Specialized drive wheels have typical mixed tread patterns, usually composed of four or five longitudinal stripes and dense transverse stripes forming a block structure. The block pattern increases tire friction, the tread contacts the road at an angle, providing good anti-slip ability, strong load capacity, and longer lifespan. Note that drive wheels generally come in unidirectional and symmetrical patterns; the former has a rolling direction and must not be installed backward.

3. Trailer Tires:
Specialized trailer wheel tread patterns generally have four longitudinal grooves, with increased tread shoulder area to enhance resistance to lateral scratches. These tires usually have a special steel belt structure that resists punctures, extrusion, and impact better. Note: These tires are generally not interchangeable and are only used for trailers.

4. Universal Tires:
Universal tires' tread patterns vary in the number of longitudinal grooves. Tires with four longitudinal grooves can be used on steering wheels but perform poorly on trailers. Tires with three longitudinal grooves are acceptable for trailers but reduce lateral slip resistance when used on steering wheels. Four-groove tires generally refer to universal passenger vehicle tires and perform average on truck load-bearing axles; three-groove tires are universal truck tires and should be avoided on steering axles.
